From one fashion fanatic to the next.
Here’s this month’s Dresscode.
Think Coachella couture. Summer knits. I’ll even go as far as saying Missoni-esque. Oh June, I’m so incredibly happy to welcome you. It’s been a whole 12 months since we last saw each other and I couldn’t bear one more without seeing you!
Although each season has its quirks and uniqueness, I’d be lying if I said my little friend, seasonal depression, doesn’t visit me at the end of every September (she departs in June though so I guess there’s the silver lining). And yes that seems a little bit daunting, but at least it’s something I can depend on. It’s clockwork. Summer ends and my depression kicks in.
On the subject of my mental health, summer fashion is most certainly my favorite anti-depressant. To be completely transparent, I don’t know if I love summer fashion as much as winter fashion, but the fact that I’m tan puts them neck and neck. Winter is all about creating depth and being very intentional with your clothing choices, whereas Summer fashion excludes the element of layering (for obvious reasons) and redirects the focus. Although layering is one of my favorite hobbies, I understand there’s a time and place; instead, it’s imperative to understand the importance of silhouettes and texture to bring our summer fashion visions to life.
As for our June Dresscode, we’re not necessarily introducing a completely new it-girl (she’s not new at all, but it’s my blog so I make the rules). Instead, we’re highlighting a trend that is multi-faceted and multi-seasonal. Before you start guessing, no she is not a color, nor is she an accessory, which may seem to be a hard feat considering I said she works in all four seasons.
With all that said, I don’t think any further introduction is needed, without further ado our June 2024 Dresscode: Crochet.
Back to one of my original points, we can’t use layering as a crutch in the summer, instead, we have to use other styling elements in its place. Crochet is such a perfect summer staple and easily creates dimension, whether that be through texture or pattern (or even both). Crochet is also one of those trends that you don’t have to wholeheartedly commit to with full force- you can opt for a crochet accessory- that screams summer if you ask me.
Another reason I love crochet is because more often than not it thinks for you, meaning you pick out a cute crochet piece and the rest of the outfit seemingly comes into place. It’s the star of the show without trying too hard, and I for one can always appreciate that.
I think what also draws my attraction to crochet is how different each and every piece is. There are certain crochet pieces that are muted and very finely made, making them look delicate. Then there are chunkier crochet pieces with intricate patterns that demand your attention. Certain pieces are incredibly vibrant and let the actual pattern take the back seat. There’s a crochet item for everyone and we applaud her for being so considerate, truly thinking about all the different fashion lovers out there.
Now that we discussed our newest it-girl, here are some ways to incorporate crochet into your summer rotation:
A patterned crochet set, a bucket hat, chunky sandals- effortlessly cool
A vibrant crochet dress, fun jewelry, sneakers- never a try-hard
A white tee, denim shorts, colorful crochet bag- crochet the day
A crochet tank top, blue jeans, sunglasses- I woke up like this
As always I linked some pieces for you to shop the trend (go to the crochet tab and click on the images to be redirected to their website)
See you next month ;)
