From one fashion fanatic to the next.
Here’s this month’s Dresscode:
Think comfy cool. Back to the basics. I’ll even go as far as saying Brandy Melville-esque. Never did I ever think the words Brandy Melville would be written on a Dresscode blog post, but I didn’t quite anticipate our August It girl. After much discussion with my dear Rina, we kept coming back to the simple fact that “styling” has been taking the fashion world by storm. Although styling clothing is not a revolutionary revelation, (I nailed that alliteration if I do say so myself) understanding that taking the basics and dressing them up kind of is. Instead of centering an outfit around a specific statement piece and building from there- we say work backwards and start with the most basic of pieces. We say start simple and slowly add color, dimension, texture to your outfit through accessories or other clothing items. We say pull out your 2013 emotional support white tank top and let the rest sort of happen. If Brandy Melville didn’t already give it away (or the fact that I wrote white tank top) then I guess I'll spell it out for you; we present our August 2024 Dresscode: White Tank.
To those currently rolling their eyes, I fear you don’t quite understand what our intentions with this Dresscode quite are. Yes, it’s summertime. Everyone wears a white tank during the summer. We didn’t discover the white tank and introduce her to the world. Got it. If you’re interpreting this trend as “less is more”, I fear you also don’t fully understand the intent.
Wearing a white tank doesn’t necessarily insinuate that you’re taking the easy way out. I do fully understand that she is the vice president of the basics (white tee-shirt is the president; it was an unanimous decision), but she always manages to pull through in producing a stellar result. She can be dressed up, she can be dressed down, she can be part of a colored ensemble, she can be part of a monochromatic ensemble, she can be part of a layered look, she can stand alone. She leaves absolutely no restrictions from a fashion standpoint and we salute her for that. Your ability to “style” a white tank top shows who you are as a member of the fashion community and gives us all the opportunity to add our flare; whether that be a baseball cap, beaded bracelets, or high heels.

A fitted white tank, a sequin mini skirt, heeled mules- Night life chic
A cropped white tank, long shorts (jorts), colored sneakers, vintage sunnies- Y2K chose me
A long white tee, low-rise jeans, an oversized blazer, pointy-toed heels- Dinner deluxe
A white tank, boxer shorts, Birkenstocks, colorful jewelry- Easy, breezy, beautiful ;)
